Bride Hall plans Luton revamp
Bride Hall Developments has revealed plans to redevelop land at Gipsy Lane, Luton.
The London developer wants to regenerate unused land at Gipsy Lane, Osborne Road and Park Street by building a new supermarket, housing, improved pedestrian links and landscaping near the river at the centre of the site.
It is working with the landowner, General Motors UK, to deliver the project.
The proposals involve three parcels of land: vacant land opposite the Gipsy Lane Retail Park; a disused bowling green next to the Venue 360 conference centre, and land between the sports pitches and Park Street – as well as the car park to the rear of General Motor’s head offices.
Planning consultancy John Thompson & Partners has been appointed to produce a masterplan for the scheme, which will aim to connect the land and create new pedestrian links to and from the residential areas.
Julian Lyon, General Motor’s European real estate manager, said: “These proposals present an exciting opportunity to address a number of wide ranging needs, including providing a supermarket and petrol station to this quarter of Luton, and meeting Luton’s housing requirements.
“The plans also help open up the riverside for the wider community.””
